Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Benjamin Button is an absolute masterpiece and is probably one of the greatest films of all time. At almost three hours in length, very gradual pacing and a story line set in New Orleans in the 1920s this has all the hallmarks of being an absolute snoozefest but by some miracle this delicate, beautiful, involving and fantastical story is utterly enchanting and will warm the smallest, deepest cockles of your heart. Will it be to everyone’s taste? No, but it’s a film that you should make every effort to see. This film is not only Brad Pitt’s finest performance ever, it is director David Fincher’s finest work and he is a man with a very impressive CV of first class movies. Quite rightly Benjamin Button has been nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Actor and Best Motion Picture. This film is pretty much as perfect as a film can get.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button shows that whether we live life forwards or backwards, the outside is just a shell and it’s what we choose to do with life that sifts out the best parts from the worst. It is truly a strange and wonderful film. It wallows in its lush oddness, relishes the quirks and foibles that drive the story and, best of all, embraces a magical sense of romance and wonder that is oddly moving.

Yes, this certainly is one extremely curious movie but don't let that put you off.
